It is starting to come off like the show is desperate for anyone to step in place of some of the ones that aren't on anymore or to often. There is just stuff about them that is not likable at all. Storage Wars follows several professional buyers in southern California as they scour repossessed storage units in search of hidden treasure. The new ones they have been bringing in are just not cutting it. From what I saw when looking up who they were, they have been trying to get on tv for awhile now. The whole "OMG this is vintage" when its far from vintage just bugs me. I tried to look it up and found nothing but we figured he was another one of his kids or nephew like you said. I hope for his sake that his stupidity is part of the shctick the producers want from him because otherwise hoo boy! I read somewhere (I think the wiki article on Storage Wars) that he is Darryl's nephew. I like when she and Brandy team up with the new auctioneer - three nice gals :). I still can't stand her voice or her laugh or her "silly little me, giggle, giggle" attitude especially when she first came on, but overall I think she's a nice person and her persona has improved over the years. I didn't catch it before but who is Chad to Darrell? There is something about that guy that was pretty creepy like too I thought. The totally bingeable A&E reality show sees a cast of contenders battle it out over the mystery contents of California storage units, seized after the original owners stopped paying the rent. The old SM acct for their store hasn't been used in a long time and the line for the store is dead. That is the only thing I see linked to his acct. The same Twitter user provided an update, revealing how Nintendo was supposedly cancelling the purchase of and would be providing a refund. I am guessing at this point unless most viewers know that these 2 don't have their stores at all they don't question things with the show. My husband said maybe not if they didn't want viewers just showing up but I disagree. I would think they would gladly splash it all over their SM accts if they had a new store and where it was or if they even sold at swap meets. I don't think they are selling at swap meets either. I can't find anything for them having a store. Storage Wars 6. Are they doing swap meets or selling online or something? IF they've reopened a store that would make more sense. From track competency (how well you know each track- as in not going off-track in successive number of laps) to car control (how much you are pushing the car at the limits, but not over it), ACC provides some data on how you stacked up in previous races and which area you should improve on. There are various stats that the game tracks you. Not to say that other racing games don’t model this, but ACC puts it pretty much front and center.ĪCC also has some tools to help you see if you’re getting better or not. How to race with a pack of equally powerful cars (there’s a penalty system, a rudimentary one but it works). Stuff like how tyre and brake temperature affect car handling. The big hump for newcomers to play ACC is the need to understand certain physics that are usually streamlined for mainstream racing games. While the game do allow for setup tinkering and on-the-fly car adjustments via the MFD (like real race cars), it’s totally okay to not utilise them early on. So go search online and copy some of the suggested controller setups. ACC is playable with a controller (and Xinput controller, mind, so use Steam Big Picture or a DS4Windows if you’re planning to use a PS4 controller hooked to the PC). You can have the ignition and pit limiter to engage automatically, and yes, driving in auto transmission is still there. But what if you are a newcomer who needs some assists? Thankfully, ACC offers some help with the more minute tasks. I’ve explained in length of how the smaller things are being modeled without hand-holding in ACC. Yeah, you see cars that swerve left and right and hard-braking before a race fully starts in real life? You can, no, must, do that too. No, from a standstill, you need to drive in line, maintaining your correct position of the grid, while using the formation lap to heat up tyres and brakes. But don’t expect to have it done automatically. Over to the race, it’s usually a rolling start. Track conditions should improve over time, and by qualifying, the previously green track should already have enough rubber on it, making it more grippy hence possible for you (and the rest of the 20+ cars on the grid) to set up fast times. And don’t forget which part of the pitlane you should stop at too. Speeding in the pits, and not abiding by that white line when exiting the pits, is straight-up a penalty-worthy offense. Oh, and when you want to get back to the pits, remember the pit lane limiter. So you need to spend some time warming them up before you get to pushing. The tyres and brakes are not heated yet, it handles like a boat. No, you don’t go out and push your car right out of the gate. Start the engine (there’s a button press for that), slowly roll out of the pits, and carefully prime the car for a proper lap. The game expects you to do what any driver in those cars, be it professional or the gentlemen drivers. Or for more sensible folks, truncate the race length to fit your own time. You can play to the full race length in real-time. And there are endurance races- with the most grueling being the 24 Hours Of Spa. In GT World Challenge Europe, there are sprint races, where you are pushing the car flat out for one whole hour. As you would expect, the tracks are Europe-centric (though the GT Challenge Pack adds more tracks around the world, a pretty good DLC). There are many teams running the Audi R8 and Mercedes-AMG GT, with some oddball cars here and there. It’s a lot of cars, but don’t expect a huge variety. Being the official game of the GT World Challenge Europe (previously Blancpain GT Series), all the cars and tracks from the 20 season is available. If you too are in the same Bentley boat as I am, read on.įirst, let’s explain what sort of complexities ACC models. But ACC is being billed as a pretty hardcore racing sim, diving deep into the complexities of a GT3 machinery no other racing games (outside of a few other more hardcore racing sims) do.Īs a newcomer to racing sims, here are my impressions of Assetto Corsa Competizione. Heck, I still drive with most assists on and have automatic transmission. But I wouldn’t dare play anything sim-like. And played a bunch of racing games all my life. I personally kept up with some bits of motorsport here and there. If Gran Turismo focusing on online multiplayer birthed Gran Turismo Sport, AC’s equivalent is ACC. That’s where the Competizione part of the name comes from. While the original Assetto Corsa is open-ended in its car and track selection offering a little bit of everything, the sequel has a dead focus on GT3 race cars. Assetto Corsa Competizione is the latest racing sim from Kunos Simulizioni. The last point I want to make is regarding the organisers. I remember particularly well the talk on the rayshader package by Tyler Morgan-Wall, where people just started clapping and cheering and he showcased the amazing things his package can do! There was this genuine apprication and amazement by what people are doing with this tool we all love, and real support and community cheer for everything. People were excited to hear about what other were doing with R. In every session I went, speakers recieved amazing support from the audience. Every single person I met was super friendly, and in a natural and really genuine way. That it in self is amazing, but with this bunch of people that thought is already so ingrained that I am unsure whether is was necessary to even say it! If I ever looked lost in the hallway, looking for familiar faces or anything like that, I was just osmosised into groups of people I didn’t know. I have never met a friendlier bunch of people, and it is epitomized by the conference host reminding everyone to be inclusive and friendly as the very first thing said on stage at the conference. This love is actually palpable when you are at RStudio::conf. There is a real love for the community we have. There is a real love for all people who love R. This might seem like a silly thing to you, if you have not been to RStudio::conf, but this thing is real. Which also sparked my own imagination as to how I could be more creative in what I do. It was thoroughly enjoyable and educational to see the different ways the same tools were applied. It was really interesting talking to people in industry on how they apply the same tools I use in research to solve “real-life” industry problems. Not only did people from all around the globe, of all colours, genders and what-nots attend, but also all different fields and industries. I have never been to a conference with such a diverse set of atttendees and speakers. Industry, academia and non-profit combined There were so many cool things to learn about, hear about, and so many properly good speakers. Of course, this can also be seen as the negative (actually what I said in the survey, sorry RStudio folks, its useless feedback ‘cause you obviously need parallel sessions). I had a genuinely difficult task of finding which sessions I wanted to attend. There are quite some reasons, but I will try to keep it to the main points what I believe are the key reasons that make RStudio::conf such an amazing conference to attend. So, to the point of this post, the reasons why RStudio::conf has far surpassed any conference experience I have had. And while people in general were friendly, it was quite a different vibe than RStudio::conf. I thoroughly enjoyed StanCon, and got to meet some awesome new people and learn some nice new MCMC stuff. The first being StanCon in Helsinki in August. RStudio::conf was my second, non-field specific conference. Norwegians tend to be comfortable being silent around strangers (or among friends… like awkward silences in Norway are a complete different thing than what I believe most other cultures experience). I don’t know who is approachable, who is off-limits, and how do I do this network thing in general? Coming from Norway, it does not come very natural to me to just put my head into a circle of people and introduce myself, or to even have small-talk with people I don’t know. I am also kind of used to conferences being a little hard to network. You might disagree with me, but that has been my general experience. While I am semi-comfortable networking and talking to people I don’t know alot, too large conferences just make it impossible. Before RStudio::conf, I had already made up my mind that small conferences trump big ones, because big conferences are too hard to navigate, too hard to network, and are generally just overwhealming. The smallest had about 500 attendees, and the largest about 30.000. I’m on a complete high, and cannot fathom that I just participated in something like this conference, which is quite something different than any other conference I have been to.Īs an academic, I have been more used to going to field-specific conferences, big and small. While I’m in my hotel room as RStudio::conf Austin has just wrapped up, ending with an amazing Birds of a Feather session with RLadies, I’m having so many thoughts and feelings about this experience. Actually, there is a lot to be said about the R-community, and I believe RStudio::conf is the empitamy of what this community actually is. There is something to be said about the R-community. 2017 Oreca #38 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca 07.1989 Mercedes-Benz #63 Sauber-Mercedes C 9.2020 Hyundai #98 Bryan Herta Autosport Veloster N.2019 Ginetta #6 Team LNT Ginetta G60-LT-P1.2015 Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona Prototype.1972 Chrysler VH Valiant Charger R/T E49.2015 Chevrolet #10 Konica Minolta Corvette Daytona Prototype.1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport 454.1969 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport Coupe.2021 Cadillac #31 Whelen Racing DPi-V.R.2014 Audi #2 Audi Team Joest R18 e-tron quattro.1989 Aston Martin #18 Aston Martin AMR1.Turn 10 has said it will reveal its full launch day car list closer to release but, for now, the developer has confirmed (opens in new tab) the following cars: In addition, the advances made to Forza Motorsport's physics simulation are "greater than Forza Motorsport 5, 6, and 7 combined", according to Turn 10. Cars will also accumulate dirt more realistically and damage will be more authentic – with both affecting each vehicle uniquely. Turn 10 has used a spectrophotometer, which "captures multiple data points of light behavior on a surface", to make the paint on Forza Motorsport's cars look more realistic. What's more, these cars will look and sound more realistic than ever. Turn 10 has said (opens in new tab) this roster will feature the most modern cars the series has seen to date. What kind of cars can we expect to see in Forza Motorsport, and more importantly, which vehicle will grace the game's cover? While it's hard for us to guess the whole roster currently, we do know that Forza Motorsport will feature 500 real-world cars at launch alongside over 800 upgrades. There will also be new features, such as regional track announcers and installed upgrades creating different sound profiles for your car, reflecting the parts you’ve fitted.įor more details on improvements to Forza Motorsport's cars and environments, read below. In addition, Forza Motorsport is set to feature the most realistic and immersive sound of any series entry to date as the game's audio has been mixed natively for Dolby Atmos and Windows Sonic. Tire compounds such as hard, medium, and soft will deepen the gameplay and racing strategy, and Esaki said it will lead to “exciting new gameplay decisions during a race". Multiple tire compounds have been confirmed too, a series first. That’s a 48x fidelity jump for a single-tire collision. In Forza Motorsport, there are now eight points of contact with the track surface, and the engine will refresh at 360 cycles per second (360Hz). From the first game to Forza Motorsport 7, tires have always had a single point of contact with the track surface, and have refreshed at 60 cycles per second (60Hz). "It’s basically a huge generational leap coming to the game.”Īccording to Esaki, the tire collision model has also been overhauled. “To put the physics work into perspective… the changes we made from Forza Motorsport 7 till now, is more than the changes we made from 4 through 7," Esaki said during the stream. Chris Esaki, the game's creative director, shared details on how Forza Motorsport’s physics have evolved from Forza Motorsport 7 during a Forza Monthly stream (opens in new tab) in May 2021. For starters, it'll be a "huge generational leap" over previous games. Forza Motorsport looks like a racing sim as pure as they come, providing a big update on what Forza Motorsport 7 offered. The one thing everyone can agree on? Don't reuse passwords. If you don't have the time or energy to devote to worrying about the nuances, though, much less managing different passwords different ways, a password manager is a one-stop solution that's always helpful-whether a certain site offers SSO or not. I choose not to count on any single source for all my password management." "Additionally, each home user may have a more or less secure home network, and different password managers may be more or less secure. "It is impossible to be certain one is better than the other, because we can’t know all the details about how companies internally manage your credentials," says Teri Radichel, CEO of the cloud security firm 2nd Sight Lab. Either way, using two-factor authentication everywhere it's offered will make your accounts more secure and much harder for attackers to phish-whether you're adding a second authentication factor to individual accounts or to a high-value account that you use for single sign-on. Ultimately, Apple extended Epic's Sign In With Apple support and says it never intended to revoke it, but the incident highlighted the downsides of introducing a third party into account access.įor the average web user it may feel like there are a daunting number of factors in the choice of committing to a password manager versus using SSO. Epic scrambled to offer resources for users to transfer their Sign In With Apple accounts to other login mechanisms so they wouldn't permanently lose access. Apple booted Epic's Fortnite game from the App Store in August and then cut the company's Apple developer program membership over in-game purchasing disputes. There may not be a way to restore access to your photos.Ī real-world example of this came up earlier this month when the gaming company Epic warned that Apple was going to revoke Epic's ability to offer Sign In With Apple. If you use Twitter to log into, say, a photo storage platform and years later lose track of your Twitter account, it's difficult to know whether Twitter or the photo site is responsible for helping you troubleshoot. Many consumer SSO schemes also present practical issues with account recovery. And not only do you have to trust the companies that offer SSO to protect your privacy and security, you also have to trust all the third-party websites offering these options to implement them correctly. If your password or access token gets stolen from an account you use for SSO, all the other sites you used it to log in with could be exposed. It creates a single point of failure if something goes wrong. Take Sign In With Apple, which lets you use TouchID or FaceID to log into any number of sites.īut for all its convenience, consumer SSO has some real drawbacks, too. For example, they're developed and maintained by companies with the resources to bake in strong security features. The SSO schemes offered by big tech companies have some obvious advantages. But while these "single sign-on" tools are convenient, and do offer some security benefits, they're not the panacea you might think. The services provide a quick way to continue whatever you're doing without having to set up a whole account and choose a new password to guard it. If you're drowning in website logins and constantly using Forgot My Password prompts to get into random accounts, a "Log In With Google" or "Log In With Facebook" button can look a lot like a lifeline.
